Not quite food, but nearly!

Hi guys, even though this is a food blog, I’m going to mention an event I’ll be attending tomorrow (11th September 2011), which isn’t strictly foodie related but exciting nonetheless. It’s the Sutton Vintage and Arts Fair being held at Sutton Coldfeild Town Hall, Birmingham. It’s going to be packed to the rafters with all things vintage. I’m really hoping to grab myself some nice vintage teacups, an ornate cake stand to show off my baking triumphs aka disasters, and if I’m lucky enough I might find a vintage inspired print for my new kitchen (which is being installed from Monday, yipee). They’ll be cakes and other delectable treats on offer which I’ll definitely have to check out. I’m really looking forward to seeing my girls and indulging in a little retail therapy. The Return of the Great British Bake Off!

I’ve been so excited at the prospect of TGBBO returning to our TV screens and have been salivating at the thought of all the tantalising recipes that will be created. In fact I’ve already seen the accompanying book out on the shelves in my local Tesco which might be worth an look/purchase at some point.

Last years final contestants, Edd Kimber, Ruth Clemens  and Miranda Gore Browne totally rocked and are fantastic bakers. They had enough skill and personality that I still follow their respective blogs to see what their up too and what their baking.

After settling down to watch the first episode, I have to say I was rather disappointed. Firstly, Mel and Sue, I honestly get more comedic value from a pack of Lurpak. Secondly, I  find Mary Berry endearing and  Paul Hollywood really knows his stuff, but please get a new catch phrase other than “this is a good bake”. Thirdly the contestants, am I the only one who doesn’t really see an astounding bunch of baking talent amongst them? I know their amateurs but seriously???????? Only Holly seemed capable.

I’m really hoping their just warming up and we’ll see much more creativity and talent in the challenges ahead or I’m going to mighty disappointed. What did you guys think?

Masterchef Australia Rocks.

For weeks I’ve been totally addicted to watching the newest Masterchef Australia series on Youtube, which has been made possible  thanks to the fantastic uploader addictedchef.  I love reality shows and any including my loves of food and cooking are my absolute favourite.

Season 3 has been phenomenal, with lots of ups and downs  and twists and turns. Some of my favourite cooks have already gone, and some of the weaker contestants seem to have coasted through off the back of immunity pins earnt by sheer fluke rather than raw cooking talent. Nonetheless I keep watching and now there are only 5 contestants left whittled down from the original 24.

Compared to the UK version, Masterchef Australia is much more interesting and dramatic and has featured a vast array of world renowned chefs, unusual team challenges and weird and wonderful locations to give it some spark and pizazz.  To be honest I’m not sure season 4 will be able to compete but I look forward to seeing their efforts next year.

I feel I’ve really grown to know the characters  and as the finale approaches I’m somewhat saddened that it’s all coming to an end. My favourite cooks are Alana, Kate and Michael and I really hope 2  my top 3 make it into the finals.

Whats Cookin?

I thought the lyrics were quite apt considering the nature of this blog!

I’ve wanted to start a food blog for a number of years but I lacked the balls to get one going.  Some of the food blogs I’ve come across look so glossy and perfect with not a crumb out of place or a burnt edge in sight, that I felt a little embarrased about my attempts as a home cook and it kinda put me off.  I’m no Nigella or Ina Garton, but what I lack in culinary skill, I make up for it in enthusiasm and cooking afterall is supposed to be fun, so here I am embarking on my little blog.

The name Totally Forked comes from the fact that sometimes my cooking attempts ate totally f****d so its just a little play on words which made me chuckle.

I really hope you enjoy my little blog and you pay me visit from time to time.
